What Happened at #BeyChella?

Beyoncé Knowles is the first woman of color to ever headline at Coachella Music festival in Indio, California. Fans have been waiting in anticipation for months ever since the lineup was announced in January. They’ve even created the trending hashtag #BEYchella. Needless to say, she did not disappoint.

The show started with a marching band dressed in all yellow. As the marching band played dancers danced along to the music as Beyoncé strutted across the stage in a dazzling headpiece and cape. Beyoncé had exactly 5 quick changes during the show and nearly suffered 2 wardrobe malfunctions. Each Outfit was carefully designed and looked over by Beyoncé, her team, and Olivier Rousteing. Rousteing is a french fashion designer and creative director of Balmain. Each outfit is a nod to black power and excellence. Fans on twitter pointed out that even her nail color changed with outfits.

She then opened with her hit song from 2003 “Crazy In Love”. She then sang various songs off of “Lemonade” along with the marching band and intense choreography. Jay-Z also made an appearance singing a throwback from 2009 “Deja-Vu”. Solange, Beyoncé’s incredibly beautiful  successful sister made an appearance as well. The two had a dance break during an extension of the song “Get Me Bodied”.

After months and months of speculation and rumors Beyoncé did what we have been waiting 13 years for. Ever since the 2000s fans have wanted Destiny’s Child to reunite and Beyoncé delivered. The backdrop of the stage was white and you could only see the silhouette of 3 women. Beyoncé then yelled “Hit Me!” into the mic. Thousands of screaming fans cheered as the 3 started singing “Lose My Breath” a 2004 girl group anthem. This was the first time since June of 2005 that Beyoncé Knowles, Kelly Rowland, and Michelle Williams ever appeared together. This was a true moment in music history.

The show ended with Beyoncé giving the audience a description of her vision for the show. She said it was more than she could dream it to be. She mentions that she came up with the show concepts back when she was pregnant a year ago with beautiful twins. Beyoncé also announced her joint tour with Jay-Z this summer.

From beautifully designed wardrobe, next level choreography, and reuniting Destiny’s child there is no doubt that Coachella is now BeyChella. This performance will go down in festival history. Whether you were at the festival or watching online live we can all agree it was worth the year-long wait!
