I spent the last two weeks of my summer vacation in the Netherlands and got the chance to visit some really unique places. I have to say that it truly is the land of windmills, tulips, and canals, with a remarkable laid-back atmosphere and beautiful character-rich cities.
Rotterdam welcomes you with a landscape of concrete, steel, and glass, which has risen from the ashes following the Nazi bombs in 1940 when the city was completely ruined. This world port is home to some of 21st century’s most architecturally important creations, its skyline living up more and more to its given name, “Manhattan-on-the-Maas.”
Amsterdam is, in my opinion, one of the most appealing and offbeat metropolises in the world. On nearly every street you’ll find old and new side by side. And let’s not forget that within a single square mile, the city harbors some of the greatest achievements in Western art.
