The 5 Best Albums Of 2017 (So Far)
We have made it halfway through 2017, and within these 6 months, a load of new, amazing music has been released. 2017 has already set itself up to be a great year for music so I figured why not narrow it down to my favorites. Without further ado, here are my 5 favorite albums of 2017 so far.
5. Dua Lipa – Dua Lipa
Pop singer Dua Lipa’s freshman self-titled release is complete pop perfection. The album consists of dreamy songs about being in love, upbeat break-up anthems), and even a few somber ballads. With this record, Dua Lipa solidifies herself as one to watch in the pop game.
Standout tracks: “Last Dance”, “New Love”, “New Rules”
4. Kehlani – SweetSexySavage
SweetSexySavage is the best title/descriptor for R&B singer Kehlani’s debut album. On the record, Kehlani covers a multitude of topics and shows an array of different sides, which truly displays how multi-faceted she is. Her attitude is fierce, yet she is still able to be sensitive and admit her faults. SweetSexySavage just shows how far Kehlani is going to go.
Standout Tracks: “Get Like”, “Advice”, “CRZY”
3. American Teen – Khalid
You may know Khalid from his hit single Location, but that definitely won’t be the last you’ll be hearing from him. His debut record American Teen perfectly encapsulates what it’s like to be a teen in the modern age. It contains a variety of songs from carefree uptempo bops, all the way to gutwrenching love songs. If you’ve only listened to Location, I highly recommend checking out more of his stuff.
Standout Tracks: “8TEEN”, “Young Dumb & Broke”, “Winter”
2. CTRL – SZA
If I could put this as a second #1, I definitely would. CTRL by SZA has just been released but has already become a classic album for me. On the record, SZA is brutally honest. She details every instance and every thought that has gone on in her love life, even the moments when she was in the wrong. From insecurity to infidelity, SZA really covers it all on this album all while creating perfectly smooth, relaxing music.
Standout Tracks: “The Weekend”, “Drew Barrymore”, “Prom,” “Garden (Say It Like Dat)”
1. Melodrama – Lorde
Lorde’s long-awaited sophomore album Melodrama tops this list as a well-deserved #1. Melodrama is the perfect album for when you want to feel all of the things that come with being young and alive. Each song carries its own separate meaning yet all ties in together to create a beautiful story. It’s modern, youthful, and overall the best album I’ve heard so far this year.
Standout Tracks: “The Louvre”, “Hard Feelings/Loveless”, “Sober”, “Perfect Places”
