Say Hello to Hollywood’s Golden Thirties With: The Last Tycoon
The Last Tycoon, written and directed by Billy Ray and based on F. Scott Fitzgerald’s 1933 unfinished novel, takes place between the Roaring ’20s, the Great Depression and the Golden Thirties.
The story is centered around Monroe Stahr (Matt Bomer), who is based on the life of the movie mogul Irving Thalberg. Monroe is a rising executive competing against his own mentor Pat Brady (Kelsey Grammer), who having come from the streets and lived a life full of sorrow, has no intention of returning to his misfortune and is determined to make the studio successful no matter what he has to sacrifice in terms of morality. As People Magazine states, “Monroe navigates the cutthroat world of aging execs, enterprising ingenues, and tireless paparazzi — all while clad in the stiff but timeless menswear of the ’30s.”
The Last Tycoon premieres July 28th on Amazon, and also stars Lily Collins, whom you may know from movies such as “Love, Rosie”, “Mirror Mirror”, and “Stuck in Love”, Rosemarie DeWitt, who starred in numerous Off-Broadway shows and played the sister of Ryan Gosling’s character in the award-winning movie “La La Land”, Dominique McElligott, whom you may know as Hannah Conway (House of Cards), Enzo Cilenti, who is known for his role in “The Theory of Everything” and “Guardians of the Galaxy”, and Jennifer Beals, Golden Globe Award nominee for her role in the series “The L Word”.
